Job Overview
River City Hope Street (RCHS) Board Members serve as volunteer leaders and stewards of the organization’s mission to empower adults through faith-based education, workforce training, and community development.
Board Members provide governance, strategic guidance, and financial oversight, ensuring that RCHS operates with integrity, fiscal responsibility, and effectiveness. They act as ambassadors of the mission, connecting RCHS to the broader community and advancing partnerships that strengthen program impact.
Job Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
1. Mission Stewardship
- Embrace and uphold the Statement of Faith of River City Hope Street.
- Ensure all programs and policies align with the organization’s Christian purpose and commitment to serving the community with compassion and integrity.
2. Governance & Oversight
- Attend at least 75% of regular board meetings (10–12 per year) and the annual planning retreat.
- Review and approve budgets, policies, and strategic plans.
- Monitor RCHS’s financial health, ensuring proper stewardship of resources.
- Participate in Board self-evaluations, bylaw revisions, and planning retreats.
3. Fund Development & Philanthropy
- Make an annual personal contribution or secure $600 or more per year through donations or gifts-in-kind.
- Actively participate in at least one fundraising committee or campaign.
- Attend and promote fundraising and community events (1–2 per year).
- Engage your personal and professional network to advance awareness and support for RCHS.
4. Committee Participation
- Serve on at least one standing or ad hoc committee, such as Finance, Fundraising, Programs, or Trades Development.
- Attend at least 75% of committee meetings and contribute actively to planning and execution.
5. Advocacy & Community Engagement
- Represent RCHS positively in the community—churches, civic groups, local businesses, and partner organizations.
- Help recruit volunteers, students, and donors.
- Share RCHS’s mission, success stories, and opportunities with your network.
6. Accountability & Ethics
- Adhere to RCHS’s Conflict-of-Interest Policy and act always in the best interests of the organization.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding board discussions and organizational information.
- Come prepared for meetings, having reviewed agendas, reports, and background materials.
- Participate in periodic board development training and new member orientation.

Qualifications
- Demonstrated commitment to Christian values and the mission of RCHS.
- Active member of a local church or faith community.
- Professional experience or expertise in one or more of the following areas preferred:
Education • Workforce Development • Business • Sales • Human Resources • Law • Trades / Construction • Community Engagement • Nonprofit Management • Marketing
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to leverage personal and professional relationships in support of RCHS’s mission.
Additional Information
Time & Meeting Commitment
- Monthly board meetings (approx. 1 hour each; hybrid format).
- Committee meetings as assigned (quarterly or monthly).
- Annual retreat / planning session (one per year).
- Special events and graduations (2–3 per year).
Estimated total time: 4–6 hours per month.
Term of Service
- Board members are appointed to three-year terms, renewable once (maximum six consecutive years).
- After completing service, members may be invited to serve as Board Member Emeritus (non-voting advisory role).
